Just before Heather Lee’s husband passed away in 1997, his final words to her were “Now is the time to show your mettle”. For Heather, she simply felt compelled to walk. And so, for the last 16 years, she has walked and walked and walked! In 2011 Heather almost by accident talk up race walking and now is a multiple world record holder in the 3, 5 and 10km walks. Not only that, she has her own website, smartphone and likes to keep up to date with society. A true living legend!

Dr Ruth Heidrich is a shining example of what it takes to age with grace. Having had her fair share of setbacks in her life, particularly being diagnosed with breast cancer at age 47, Ruth transformed her lifestyle – particularly her diet and her exercise levels – to not only conquer the big C, but to go on and become the oldest women to compete in Ironman triathlons (She calls herself an IronLADY!), and continue to shatter the stereotype that you should slow down as you age.

At 94 retired dentist Charles Eugster could be excused for slowing down. But that is the very danger that is responsible for so many people’s sad ending to life. Instead, Charles keeps up a constant regime of vigorous exercise, healthy eating, competition body-building and speaking engagements, all of which he says are the keys to living a long and healthy life. His TedX talk which has attracted almost 170,000 views has inspired people from all corners of the globe to improve themselves as they age.
