Monday Aug 24, 2020
Friendship is perhaps more cherished and more missed during these COVID times. One of our dear friends is Shona Olykan. Shona joined us in Ikaria in 2016 for our first Longevity Experience and was due to be with us in Sardinia this year. At 80 years young, Shona joins us on this episode to share what she’s been feeling lately: glum.
Permission to feel glum and down during this times is covered in this episode, as is one of the great antidotes to glumness – friendship.
PS – The image for this podcast is Shona and Marcus dancing at the panygiri in Ikaria in 2016.

100NO 386: The Snack Pandemic
Monday Aug 17, 2020
Monday Aug 17, 2020
Are you a snacker?
Marcus is, Damo isn’t. Although since COVID, Damo has become far more partial to chocolate 🙂
Snacking is more than on-trend at the moment. It’s going more viral more than COVID19 itself given that so many people are working from home or simply staying at home. Nearly all companies associated with snacking are reporting major sales growth and even records. Breville, for example, has enjoyed a 25% increase in sales, amassing nearly $1billion over the last 12 months.
But what about the individual toll? What impact is our increased time at home and tendency to snack having on our physical health? Are we going to see a rise in globesity over the next 12-24 months as a result of our increased snacking?
All this and more on this episode of 100 Not Out.

100NO 385: COVID Games To Make The Day OK
Monday Aug 10, 2020
Monday Aug 10, 2020
Almost every human being on the planet has spent more time at home in the last 6 months than at pre-COVID times.
This has given rise to more and more ways to pass the time. Whilst sitting in front of the TV used to seem lazy and overindulgent, now it’s become a form of self-love, especially for the previously overworked community.
Hugh Jackman has revelaed his love of puzzles on the Tim Ferriss podcast, others their love of music whilst for some, binge-watching Ken Burns documentaries or series they never “had the time to” in pre-COVID times have become an unexpected nice surprise.

We record our podcast each Wednesday at approx 3pm AEST on Facebook – be sure to tune in if you’re free 🙂

For many people (and big love to our Melbournian listeners and others who are in lockdown at the moment), this is an extremely challenging time to be chipper, cheerful and bright.
Mental “unhealth” or unwellness as Damian refers to it in this episode, is a major issue, perhaps even greater than the numbers of COVID19.
How we all “make the day OK” is going to be different for all of us. Some make the day a win by watching TV in their pyjamas all day, whilst others prefer to go for walks or sleep in. Enough of the judgement on what is right or wrong, good or bad ways to get through this time.
Making the day OK – however that looks for you – is most important.

100NO 381: Lockdown musings – the best and worst of humanity
Monday Jul 13, 2020
Monday Jul 13, 2020
With metropolitan Melbourne going back in to lockdown, Damian shares what it’s like to be in the thick of it.
We discuss the untold statistics of mental health challenges, especially suicide, and the greater impact of COVID19 beyond the condition itself.
We talk about cancer, diabetes and obesity paying a far bigger price on mortality than COVID19, and ponder the selective choices of the media to once again choose the ‘bad’ news over the ‘good’ news.
